Hamanishi is one of the top young mezzotint artists in Japan. Many of his old mezzotints are from his farm series. They depict rice, Japan's "staff of life" and silver or gold leaf which represent the way antique Japanese screens were created.
His division series represents taking similar objects and dividing them in different ways spacially.
His present series depicts the understated beauty of traditional Japanese windows.
Museum collections: Hamanishi's work has been collected by over 25 museums including the Metropolitan Museum in New York, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Smithsonian, and the British Museum.
