Sarah Brayer: Creating luminescent beauty with paper


Sarah Brayer is an American artist based in Japan, internationally known for her large-scale washi paperworks and aquatint prints. Her artwork resides in museum collections in Japan, the US and the UK.

The artworks in Sarah Brayer's latest series, LUMINOSITY: Night Paperworks look one way by day, and another completely different way by night. Brayer utilizes photo luminescent pigments in the washi that create an afterglow in the dark. She has developed her techniques in the historic paper center of Echizen, Japan.

Art Basel week in Miami December 5 - 9 is the most important week for the top galleries who sell contemporary art. Only a select few are chosen for each of the special shows at different locations in Miami INK Miami is the most important show for galleries dealing in prints and paintings on paper. Only 14 galleries are invited to participate in this show. Of course The Verne Gallery was invited. The following is what happened.

We have just returned from a record breaking show at the New York Armory in Manhattan the week of November 1st through the 4th just after Hurricane Sandy. After three flight cancellations to New York, we decided to drive. The following is what happened.
